Job Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient maintenance work activities on the facility's equipment by Maintenance Personnel assigned to his/her team.

Job Description

1.Directs maintenance personnel to meet mechanical preventative maintenance and equipment service needs. Coordinate maintenance activities with operations and other areas of the facility.

2.Communicate with maintenance personnel to assure effective two-way communications occurs between management and employees.

3.Implement all Elementis safety management controls, programs and policies. Enforces safety and housekeeping standards to maintain plant standards.

4.Ensure subordinate’s activities are in compliance with all Federal, State and Local laws, regulations, and environmental operating permits (OSHA, EPA, EEO, NPDES, etc).

5.Plan and implement maintenance training of peers and subordinates.

6.Assure all regulatory and refresher training (for employees) is completed according to published plans and schedules.

7.Responsible for completing review/sign-off of employee training programs.

8.Responsible for leading Safety and Communication Meetings and initiating regular safety contacts. Maintains positive plant morale, supports all plant policies, and interprets them for subordinates. Assures subordinate’s fair and equitable representation and participation in HSE Committee activities.

9.Ensures all regulatory inspections, audits, etc. carried out according to schedule, and assures acceptable quality of same.

10.Coordinates annual reviews of assigned procedures/policies, including operating manuals, ensuring appropriate accuracy, etc.

11.Responsible for participating in HSE programs and for engaging maintenance employees in this program.

12.Responsible for coordinating maintenance support needs during off-hours. Advises all parties, superiors, peers, and subordinates, on all changes or situations that have an effect on safety, the environment, or production.

13.Promotes performance to all employees. Specifies to the mechanics acceptable work habits and if substandard, retrains, corrects or instigates disciplinary action.

14.Motivates all employees to perform above standard work by recognizing and rewarding above standard performance and safety habits and informing superiors with a letter of praise if appropriate.

15.Maintains qualifications and participates in equipment emergencies. Performs emergency first aid, CPR, fire protection and HAZMAT response. Counsels subordinates or peers where qualified or recommends sources of help. Distributes all company bulletins or personal messages received to parties concerned. May serve as back-up Incident Commander.

16.Must be an effective communicator regarding plant equipment conditions.

17.Responsible for finding coverage for mechanics who will not be to work on their regular shift time due to sickness, accidents, family emergency, etc.

18.Responsible for maintenance of subordinate’s records (attendance, etc)

19.Responsible for implementing disciplinary actions as directed by Management and defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

20.Ensure completion of daily and monthly preventative maintenance inspections. Track work orders associated with inspections and notify HSE department if work orders are not completed in a timely manner.

21.Immediately notify HSE department of any environmental or safety incidents.

What will it take

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to walk, climb stairs and wear personal protective equipment as required. Must be able to wear a respirator and self-contained breathing equipment.

General:

Work day shift to support 24 hours/day, 7 days/week operation.

Relationships With Outside Organizations:

Contact with vendors, some customers and suppliers, Emergency Services, common carrier truck drivers, contract maintenance, personnel, and authorized visitors.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge:

Minimum 5 years plant experience along with 2 years of maintenance leadership experience.

Relationships Of Position To Other In Its Function:

Works with Production Managers, Process Engineer, Reliability Engineer, and Operations Supervisor,, I/E Specialists, HR Coordinator, Regulatory Professionals, Shift Mechanics, etc.

Major Or Unusual Problems:

Equipment failure, operator error or process upsets can force decisions under pressure to insure continuous safe production of facility equipment.

Sources Of Support:

Production Managers, HSE Managers, Maintenance Manager, Engineering Manager, Human Resources Coordinator, and Plant Manager.

Decision-Making Authority:

Authority to make decisions concerning equipment maintenance, manpower needs and daily operational changes.
